The menopause isn’t a new fad, women have always gone through it, and they also found natural remedies to help them deal with it. See how the traditional herbal medicine Black Cohosh can help relieve symptoms of the menopause for you.
What are the benefits of black cohosh?
Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemose) is a herb from the buttercup family, also known as black snakeroot, rattleweed and bugbane. It originated in North America and was used by native people there for centuries to help relieve the symptoms of menopause and menstrual irregularities, including hot flushes, night sweats and temporary changes in mood like nervous irritability and restlessness.
What is the menopause?
If we were to get technical, ‘menopause’ is the word to describe what happens to women’s bodies when they stop having a period – usually by the ages of 45-55. But, ‘menopause’ is commonly used to describe the period of time leading up to the menopause, which the proper term for is perimenopause. Oestrogen and progesterone start to act differently during this process, rising and falling in an erratic way and causing often uncomfortable symptoms for women while they do so.
What are the symptoms of the menopause?
The most common symptoms include hot flushes and night sweats (60-85% of women get them), which usually last for around 4 years but have also been recorded to last up to 15 years! Another symptom women may experience is a temporary change in their mood, such as restlessness and nervous irritability. Black cohosh root can help to relieve these uncomfortable symptoms as there is evidence it may have hormone-like functions.
If you are experiencing these symptoms and want relief, try taking one of these tablets daily – at the same time every day if possible.
